As Chairman of the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau, Robert co-founded Touchdown Arlington and led the grassroots efforts to bring the Dallas Cowboys to Arlington.

Council Member Rivera worked to help bring to fruition the Arlington Animal Shelter which is one the finest Animal Shelters in Texas.

Council Member Rivera worked to help open the Tails 'N Trails dog park. Robert cares for the citizens as well as all the pets in Arlington.

Since 2005 Council Member Rivera has helped direct over $35 million in Southeast Arlington for street improvement projects.

Council Member Rivera has worked tirelessly with neighborhoods throughout Southeast Arlington to promote and support crime watch groups. These efforts have resulted in the lowest crime rate per capita in Arlington.

Council Member Rivera’s commitment to public safety is displayed by his efforts to bring a police station to South Arlington.

In 1993 as a member of the Library Board, Robert Rivera served as Co-Chairman of the bond election to build the future Southeast library.
